In God We Trust

February 27, 2018

"It is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works" (Psalm 73:28, NKJV).

“In God We Trust” is the official motto of the United States of America.  We see it every day on our coins and dollar bills.

Our national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner” has those words in the lyrics (though not sung during events, our national anthem is actually four parts, only the first is generally represented).

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'

My question is though, do we believe this?  Do we live this?  Are we truly a nation anymore that puts our trust in God?

Last week a fourth grade teacher had to remove a plaque on her wall that had a picture of the American Flag with the words “God Bless America”.  She also had to remove a sign that said “In God We Trust”.

Apparently, those words were offensive and had to be taken down…so they were.  We are living in a time where God has become offensive.

I have a child going to a public school today.  Both my kids have either went or is going through the public school system.  I am sad when I hear of school shootings like we had in Florida.  I instantly put myself in the parent’s shoes and think “What if that happened when my son or daughter was at school”?

I am thankful for a few teachers in Ferndale that I do know, as well as the teachers all across America who see their workplace as a “spiritual battleground”.  In a time where so many people are trying to keep God out of our school system, there are a few who are putting on the armor and crying out “In God We Trust” on behalf of these kids!

I don’t want to get political here, but from 1900-1960, before they took prayer out of schools, there was 62 deaths from school shootings.  Averages about 10 per year.  From 1960-2017, it goes up to 419, or an average of 70 per year.

"It is better to trust the LORD than to put confidence in man" (Psalm 118:8).

Let that be my prayer…”In God I Trust”, not “In Man I Trust”.

My prayer for me personally, and for this country that I love, is that we get back the revelation of trusting in God.  That we become a nation again that puts our trust, our faith, and dependence on the Creator.

Let us put on the armor and show and proclaim that it is “In God We Trust”.
