Desiring God's Will

August 1, 2018

At the very beginning stages of our marriage, we accumulated a lot of stuff.  We had a new computer (which was expensive back in the day), nice TV, nice furniture, car payments and credit card debt up to our eyeballs.

We lived a very fun, and a very expensive lifestyle.  We had a lot of things, including a lot of debt.   Not long after we accumulated all this stuff, things that we thought would add blessing and pleasure to our lives, did just the opposite.  We had bills we couldn’t afford to pay, other things suffered as a result such as groceries, utilities turning off, house payments being late, and constant collection calls.

The things we thought would bring joy and favor in our lives, turned out to be not a blessing at all, but a curse.  Why?  Because we acquired and desired things outside the will of God.

Ezekiel 25:6-7 - Whatever you acquire outside of God’s will eventually turns to ashes.

I can think of so many times that I have desired or went for things that I thought would be a benefit for me, only for it to be a curse.  Wanting things that maybe elevated me instead of God, maybe pleased other people, or maybe finding security in joy in something other than God.  Even when I have a check in my spirit, sometimes I still pursue things, only to realize, sooner or later, if it’s not God’s will for my life, it turns to ashes.

There is nothing wrong with being goal oriented, wanting stability or acceptance, as long as you are pursuing those things within God’s will for your life.  If you chase after anything (love, wealth, acceptance, stability, or anything else) apart from God’s will, what you will find once you achieve your goal will end up making you feel empty and disappointed.

So don’t ignore that check in your spirit, that internal alarm signal within you – it could be God warning you that you are about to do something you will regret.

Philippians 4:6Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Pray about everything.  A lesson God continues to teach me.  Every decision, every action, ever direction…pray, ask and get in agreement with God – then those things you are desiring will truly be a blessing to you and others.  Anything else, simply ash.
