Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.
Our thoughts reveal who we are. Isn’t that a scary thought at times? But it is absolutely true. Sure, we may be able to hide our true feelings, bite our tongues or show something on the outside that is different than what is going on internally for a time, but the fact remains – our thoughts reveal who we are.
That being said, how is your thought-life? Why our thought-life matters so much to God is because eventually, what we continually think will determine what we say and do.
Proverbs 12:18 – The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise bring healing.
Our words have a powerful impact. Our words can bring blessing to others. Our words can inspire and encourage. Our words can also discourage and destroy. Our words can cultivate hate and hurt. Our words have a powerful impact…but every word first comes from a thought.
God is interested in the topics we choose to think about. Not only do our words have an impact, but so do our actions. We can show an act of kindness and love. We can show an act of compassion and care. We can also show acts of violence, lust and adultery.
Everything we say, everything we do, all begins with a thought. So be intentional about what you are putting into your mind, how you are spending your time, what you are consuming because what gets poured into you eventually get poured out.
