Romans 5: 1-5 – Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
As I was reading this passage this morning I was reminded of the benefits we have through being justified (saved) through faith. Let’s just strip down this verse a bit and thank God what He so graciously gives…
“Peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”
“The hope of the glory of God”
Bible it is the confidence from God concerning His promises. Because it is based on God’s word, there is no doubt or “wishful thinking” needed.
“In our suffering, perseverance is produced”
Hope (again, that word hope)
We’ve been given the Holy Spirit.
Because of the salvation we have through Jesus Christ, we can have confidence in the goodness, love and character of our Lord. There is “no doubt” that God’s promises are always true and right. This should produce not only assurance, peace and hope in our lives, but complete and utter joy. We have been given so much, promised so much, and we are loved so much…why wouldn’t we be the happiest people on earth!
