“Prayer is the one thing that can make a difference in everything.”
Simply, Jesus expects us to pray.
Matthew 6:5, “And when you pray….”
Matthew 6:6, “But when you pray…”
Matthew 6:7, “And when you pray…”
Matthew 6:9, “This, then, is how you should pray…”
Luke 11:9, “So I say to you: Ask….; seek….; knock….”
Luke 18:1, “Then Jesus told his disciples…they should always pray.”
God’s Word Makes It Clear…
Colossians 4:2, “Devote yourselves to prayer.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray continually.”
When we pray, God moves. Simple as that. Just like any discipline, consistency matters. Personally, my prayer life improved when I did the following:
Found a prayer closet: A specific place that I go to pray, by myself, to meet with God.
Found the best time: The verse above in Thessalonians says we are to pray continually, but for me, to have a specific time I know I’m going to call the Lord has helped me be more focused and intentional with my prayer life. This isn’t the only time during the day I pray, but it’s my scheduled time.
Prayer list: I write down the requests I have (or get from others) and review them in my journal. Once in a while, I’ll simply write out all my prayers for that day as I voice them. Intentional and helps me remember not to stop being “shamelessly persistent”.
Pray with others: The disciples learned to pray not only by hearing Jesus teach about prayer, but also by being with Him when He prayed. There is power when we pray with and for others.
I would like to ask you to join one of our prayer meetings at New Song Church (at least one). Our prayers are needed, wanted and effective. When we pray, God moves. If you are reading this, would you consider at least one of these meetings to attend on a weekly basis?
